The
spawning of the Redymix sound machine began back in 1997 when, a very
musically inclined Richard Phillip began playing music and using his fathers
sound system equipment. At the time, Richard went under the name “Little
sound boy” since all though he was small in stature his DJ skills were
quickly developing. His neighbor, Shomari who also had a keen taste in music
also started practicing at Richard's home. This caused the two to merge
forces with little Sound Boy as the initial DJ and Shomari, AKA Styliztics
as the Mic. Man. In
1998, the two soundmen underwent a massive promotional spurt, playing in a
lot of house parties in the area of Trincity (Their home town) and other
gigs and secondary school parties such as Tranquility and Arima. But it was
their link up with fellow DJ associates and brethren Long John Silva that
helped the group to become more aware of the “tricks of the trade” in
the DJ business and also to create links with some of the more experienced
Music men in the DJ fraternity. 1999-2001
was probably the crew’s most pivotal years. In 99’ they landed the
Saturday afternoon spot at the then Club Tulajour Night Club for their
weekly Saturday afternoon Jam. Combining the marketing skills of Stylistics,
and the crew’s versatile sound was a huge success for the club, which saw
its profits soar in the space of two months! This opened the door for the
young DJ crew who by now had gained some well needed experience and a name
in the Trincity area and the east west corridor. Since
then the Redymix Sound Machine has been heard in bashments all over the
islands. From . They have also played in some of the top clubs in the
country Such as The Anchorage and the Lair, Club Coconuts and the
Liquid just to name a few. They have also caught the attention of some
of the bigger sounds in T&T who play on the two leading radio stations
in Trinidad and Tobago.
